Calmez and Gustave named UA Cossatot Athletes of the Month for November
DE QUEEN, Ark. - The UA Cossatot Athlete of the Month honors have been announced for November, as Angeline Gustave claimed the Female Athlete of the Month award while Cherano Calmez won Male Athlete of the Month, a first for a Cossatot basketball player.
Coming to Cossatot from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Gustave has been a constant presence in the Colts midfield. The North Miami Senior High School grad scored the winning goal on a free kick from Cossatot's own half in double overtime to givbe the Colts victory over No. 9 St. Charles to wim the Colts Central District Championship and secure a NJCAA National Championship berth, where Gustave filled in admirably at center back in the two matches in Wichita, Kansas. Gustave was also named to the NJCAA Region 2 DII All-Region Team.
Calmez is a native of Almere, Netherlands, and is in his second season at Cossatot. Calmez started all nine games in November, averaging 9.7 PPG and 6.7 RPG in 22.8 minutes a game and shooting 50.7% from the field while leading the Colts in FG%, rebounds (61), steals (12) and blocks (5). Calmez notched a career-high in points (21) and steals (4) on Nov. 5 against East Texas Baptist University JV as well as getting a season-high with 10 rebounds in a double-double against Royal Ambassador Prep on Nov. 8.
