Women’s Soccer Puts Up Hard Fight Against No. 5 St. Charles Away in Missouri

St. Charles, Mo. - UA Cossatot women's soccer put up a gallant performance Against No. 5 St. Charles, losing 4-3 as UAC came close to completing a three-goal comeback at the St. Charles Community College Soccer Field.
The Colts (2-6) fell behind 4-1 to the Cougars (13-1-1) but scored twice, ultimately losing by one goal to a top-five opponent.
SCCC struck first twice, as NJCAA Division II's fifth-ranked team scored in the 11th and then the 12th minute.
The Colts wouldn't go down without a fight, as Francesca Dorreus scored her fifth goal of the season in the 23rd minute to cut the deficit in half.
The Cougars weren't adverse to fighting back though, scoring on a corner kick with 36 seconds to go to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.
It was mostly St. Charles in the first half, winning the shots battle 12-3.
The Cougars made it 4-1 to start the second half, scoring a 50th minute goal.
Dorreus struck back in the 62nd minute scoring her first goal of the season, and then a 64th minute goal by Mariana Castillo for her first of the season on a Dorreus assist made it a one-goal match.
While Cossatot came close to an equalizer, St. Charles was ultimately able to hold on for the win.
SCCC outshot UAC 26-8, winning the shots on goal battle 10-to-three.
Nahomie Ambroise made six saves in goal.
The Colts are off for 20 days now, with Sophomore Day taking place on Oct. 25. against National Park College at the Colts Soccer Complex in De Queen. The contest will serve as the clincher for the conference title for NJCAA Region 2 Division II, with the Colts having an upper hand towards winning the series by virtue of their 4-1 win against the Nighthawks on Wednesday in Hot Springs.
