Hot Springs, Ark. - UA Cossatot men's soccer engaged in a close contest against National Park College, losing 2-1 to National Park College at Hot Springs High School Wednesday afternoon.
Cossatot (2-5, 0-1 Region 2) fell behind twice, with the Nighthawks (6-3-1, 1-0 Region 2) responding to their second half equalizer in the dying minutes.
The Return leg on Oct. 25 will serve as the decider for the conference championship, with the champion advancing to the District Championship, just one step away from the NJCAA Championship in Wichita, Kansas.
NPC took the lead in the 16th minute and held off UAC until halftime. Both sides had 10 shots apiece in the first half, but National Park led four-to-three in shots on goal, with Alexander Hautz making three saves for the Colts.
Cossatot found an equalizer in the 61st minute, when a Gustavo Quiroz free kick into the box was headed in by Danyal Bissessur to make it 1-1.
With just seven minutes to go, an NPC shot found the back of the net, giving them victory.
Cossatot had 14 shots to NPC's 17, with four and seven shots on goal respectively.
Hautz had seven saves in goal.
The Colts are back in non-conference action on Saturday, Oct. 4, as they'll take on Neosho County Community College at noon in Chanute, Kansas.
